2007 Rationale

Established: 1978
Publisher: Ascend Media Healthcare
Frequency: 12 monthly issues, plus the Retirement Guide, June 15; ACS Surgery Product Spotlight, September 15 series
Website: www.surgicalroundsonline.com

Surgical Rounds, a monthly peer-reviewed clinical publication, publishes physician authored articles with everyday applications for the general surgeon and other surgical specialists. Monthly presentation is enhanced with anatomical charts, MI series, and coming in 2007, a new section on Maintaining Certification in Surgery.

Editorial Mission: Surgical Rounds comprises original clinical articles that focus on surgical procedures and techniques.

Publication Features:

  • Dr. Bernard Jaffe's Editorial: Our Editor-in-Chief pens thoughts on important topics including the politics of surgery and national issues affecting surgeons.
  • Clinical articles are short, instructive, and focused on improving clinical skills and outcomes.
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery Series: Minimally invasive surgeries (MIS) account for 15% of surgical procedures today, and are projected to expand to 70% by 2010. These high-tech features help surgeons keep pace with practical instruction accompanied by photographs and illustrations. Each is accompanied by a commentary authored by our series guest editor and MIS expert, Thomas Gadacz, MD.
  • Case Reports: While the trend in surgery is toward MIS, surgeons will always perform invasive surgical procedures. Each month we provide a number of illustrated case reports showing practical approaches to treating specific disorders amenable to surgical technique.
  • Anatomical Charts: Exclusive to Surgical Rounds. Detailed four-color drawings showcase a different anatomical structure each month. Charts are perforated for reuse, and downloadable from www.surgicalroundsonline.com.
  • Surgeon's Bulletin Board presents advice for readers on personal finance.
  • Maintaining Certification is a feature unique to Surgical Rounds that will present study materials to support general surgeons in the process of sustaining their certification credentialing. This continuing section will present every other month in 2007.

Circulation Breakdown: Targets all office and hospital based general surgeons and other surgical specialties as well as medical oncologists and infectious disease specialists. Circulation includes the military.
